Why we are using soy wax for our candles
Did you know that 95% of the world’s candle production is based on paraffin wax, a petroleum derivative? Only between 4% and 5% are made with natural ingredients. The combustion of this type of paraffin wax candles emits vapors and gases that are harmful to the health, as well as carcinogens.
We only use certified organic soy wax for the production of our candles because it’s an unlimited, renewable and biodegradable source, which makes it a sustainable product. Their combustion does not constitute any risks, because they are non-toxic. It does not increase the levels of CO2 in the environment when heated and does not produce waste or soot. Our wicks are 100% natural and are made of hemp filaments. Also, our soy wax will burn slowly, making our candles last 2 to 3 times longer than paraffin. This means that they can be used for much longer.
About Mimi & August
Since the beginning we have valued attention to small details and fair production, which is why we work with small factories that enable economic development and sustainable job creation. We inspect each factory in person to make sure the employees work decent hours, that they are paid fair wages and that there is no child labor. All our garments are proudly designed in Montreal, Canada and produced ethically here and abroad. Our goal is to make quality products rather than to have an overflowing inventory. Making clothes, swimsuits and accessories that we are proud of is the most essential thing for us.
