Being vegan can be a hard. It takes a lot of effort to know which ingredients are animal-derived and which are not. If they’re even listed. What many people don’t know is that a lot of wines and beers are not vegan or not even vegetarian. Animal-based substances such as gelatin, eggs, and isinglass are used to clarify and stabilize most wines. Thankfully, more and more wineries and breweries are changing their methods and are now making vegan wines and beers.

Canadian wine has certainly been gaining popularity in recent years and we’re lucky to have many wineries making vegan wines. So let’s support our local wine makers and grab one of these bottles next time you’re at the LCBO. Cheers to that!

Thank you so much for this. I was having to search each wine individually in the store and it took forever and none of the wines were ever vegan. It will be nice to finally buy a bottle again for an occasion. Much appreciated

  2. Christine Campbell says:

I am a relatively new vegan. Four months. I had no idea that some wines were not vegan and used animal products until a vegan friend informed me. So immediately I checked to see which wines are vegan and will only buy those now. Thank you for this information.

  3. Eilleen says:

There are other vegan wines in the LCBO
I work in Elmira and we have at least three reds that are Vegan

Well, the LCBO definitely has the largest selection. You could go to your local one and see what wines they have and then use Barnivore.com to check if they’re vegan! Good luck!
