The Happy Cow app is a great resource to find vegetarian and vegan restaurants in your area. You can also use it though to find health food stores close to you.
2 | CodeCheck App
Looking for cosmetics and foods that are vegan, healthy and free of toxins, palm oil or too much sugar? With the CodeCheck app, you can see at a glance what’s actually hiding behind the cryptic content lists on the back of your products. Allowing you to shop healthy and sustainable! The app also provides better alternatives and personal alerts.
3 | Is It Vegan? App
Is It Vegan is a tool for anyone interested in eliminating animal products from their diet. Simply scan the UPC barcode on the package of any food or beverage product, and you’ll see whether the product is vegan, vegetarian, or neither.
4 | Animal-Free App
Animal-Free is a full-featured, pocket reference guide for many common and hidden animal ingredients as well as commonly misunderstood vegan ingredients. Whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, part-time veg, or simply trying to shop veg-friendly, Animal-Free will help you make conscientious shopping decisions.
5 | VeggieBeers App
VeggieBeers is a vegetarian, vegans and celiacs best drinking friend. Use VeggieBeers to help you find a beverage that’s suitable for your diet. Including ales, wines, lager, spirits and more! Use VeggieBeers to search the Barnivore database of around 25,000+ or try scanning the barcode of your favorite beverage.
6 | Chocolate List App
The app reflects Food Empowerment Project’s most recent research on companies that make vegan chocolate products to find out if they source their chocolate from areas where slavery can still be found. Lists can be searched by name or viewed by recommendation.
7 | Buycott App
Buycott helps you use your dollars to create change. Use our barcode scanner to get the unfiltered look at every product in the store. Make a purchase decision on the product and communicate your decision to the company. Join campaigns to support causes you care about.
8 | Ethical Barcode App
Ethical Barcode exposes the environmental, social and ethical ramifications of the products you buy. For each company in the chain, you’ll see relevant ratings, news, and certifications from non-profits. Spanning climate change, animal testing, GMO’s, slave labor, sweatshops, LGBT rights, organic foods and more.
9 | Bunny Free App
Get PETA’s Bunny Free app to find out if the products you are using were tested on animals and find cruelty-free alternatives instead. You can search, scan or browse to get the info you need.
10 | Cruelty-free app
The official app of the Leaping Bunny program is similar to PETA’s app. What’s very helpful though is that they also tell you if the company itself is cruelty-free but the parent company isn’t. This is the case with The Body Shop for example. Even though they have never tested on animals, they have been bought by L’Oreal which is still doing animal testing.
11 | Non-GMO project App
The official app of the Non-GMO project helps you identify GMO foods. Simply scan the barcode to find out.
12 | Dirty Dozen App
Use the EWG’s Dirty Dozen app to find out which foods have the biggest pesticides load (Dirty Dozen) and which ones are the cleanest (Clean 15). The app also gives you a breakdown of what pesticides are used and what they do (scary).
13 | Healthy Living App
Find out about the health and safety ratings of the product you’re about to buy. Simply search or scan, the database contains more than 200,000 products.
14 | Good On You App
Want to know how your favorite retailer is doing? Check the Good On You app and you will learn about how they treat their workers, the environment, and animals. The app is well researched and you can find most Canadian mainstream retailers & brands. They also let you search by category (e.g. purses) and then show you the best brands.
15 | Fair Fashion App
A living wage is a human right. Yet the scandalous truth is that the majority of workers in the global fashion industry cannot afford to live with dignity and earn no more than €6 a day. Do H&M, Zara, Marks & Spencer, Nike and Adidas make sure workers are paid living wages? The app has information on more than 140 global fashion brands.
